How to Choose the Right Sunglasses for Your Face Shape

Sep 1, 2023 | Eyewear

Sunglasses are not only fun and stylish but also essential for protecting your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays. With so many styles and designs to choose from, finding the right sunglasses for your face shape can be difficult. In this blog post, we’ll explore the different face shapes and how to choose the perfect pair of sunglasses for your face shape and style.

Identifying your face shape

Choosing the right sunglasses starts with identifying your face shape. There are six main face shapes:

  • Round: Soft curves and similar width and height.
  • Oval: Balanced proportions with a slightly narrower forehead and curved jawline.
  • Square: Strong jawline and forehead, similar width and length.
  • Heart: Broad forehead that tapers to a narrower chin.
  • Rectangular/oblong: Longer and narrower, similar to the square shape.
  • Diamond: High cheekbones and narrow forehead and chin.

Take a close look at your face and determine your face shape. Once you know your face shape, finding the perfect sunglasses becomes much easier!

1. Round face shape

If you have a round face shape, square or rectangular frames will help add definition and structure to your face. Avoid round or curved frames, which can make your face look even rounder. Additionally, sunglasses with wider lenses and thicker temples can enhance your look.

2. Oval face shape

If you have an oval face shape, consider yourself lucky. Oval faces are versatile and can pull off almost any style of sunglasses. However, we recommend that you choose sunglasses that are proportional to your face size. Oversized or undersized frames can throw off the balance of your face shape.

3. Square face shape

For a square face, look for round or oval frames. These can help soften your angular features and provide proportionality to your face shape. Rimless sunglasses and cat-eye frames are highly recommended, as they provide balance to your square features.

4. Heart face shape

To balance and draw attention away from your forehead, look for sunglasses with cat-eye, round, or square frames. Make sure to choose frames that are wider at the bottom than the top.

5. Rectangular/oblong face shape

Sunglasses with wider frames are best for people with rectangular face shapes. Round and square frames also work well but try to avoid small or narrow styles that can make the face appear even longer.

6. Diamond face shape

If you have a diamond-shaped face, choose frames that accentuate your cheekbones. Square or oval frames can be a great choice. Avoid narrow frames and opt for wider frames to balance out your forehead and chin.
